| NJHA DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES Breakdown by Month
On-Going Responsibilities
- Serve as an example and leader to the NJHA membership
- Promote the NJHA and Hereford cattle at all times
- Maintain a code of conduct and professionalism
- Be familiar with all NJHA programs and opportunities
- Keep up with current events in the Hereford and livestock industries
- Stay in weekly contact with the AHA Youth Director
- Review weekly mail (or e-mail) from the AHA Youth Department and respond promptly
- Write monthly letters to fellow board members
- Communicate with assigned state junior associations
- Outline travel schedules with the Youth Director at least one month prior to an event, meeting, etc., so that flight arrangements can be made
- Solicit sponsors for convention meals, dances, manuals, etc.
- Obtain calendar advertisements for both large and small ads
- Always complete responsibilities and assignments before deadlines
January/February
- Denver meeting during the National Western Stock Show
- Plan leadership conferences for regional shows, Jr. National Expo and PRIDE Convention - Study existing programs for possible changes, and consider new programs - Plan NJHA Board leadership training for March (OR plan for YBIC during even-numbered years) - Fundraising projects
- Work with Youth Director and state associations in planning field days and regional shows
- Discuss spring newsletter and begin work on assignments
- Work with the Jr. National Expo host state juniors on fundraising, planning, scheduling, etc.
- Encourage states to incorporate leadership training in their summer activities
March/April
- Complete (and turn in) newsletter editorial by March 1
- Spring Board Meeting (March) - in even-number years, this is held in conjunction with the Youth Beef Industry Congress)
- Field Day scheduling - State leadership workshop scheduling - Jr. National Expo and PRIDE Convention planning - Calendar project update - Participate in YBIC and/or national board leadership training session - Review all existing programs - Write and prepare field day speeches to present to the board - Communicate with Jr. National Expo host-state committees
May/June
- Field Days
- Communicate with sate associations and hosts of assigned field days/shows - Finalize work on leadership workshops - Attend field days
- Jr. National Expo
- Complete sponsor solicitation - Encourage individuals to apply for awards - Finish all committee work - Continue communication with host state
- PRIDE Convention
- Encourage individuals to run for national director and apply for awards - Obtain PRIDE sponsorships
- Calendar
- Complete large ad sales - June 1
July/August
- Junior AI Program
- Recommend bulls to Youth Director for the sire listing
- Jr. National Expo
- Committee Work - Put on a GREAT Jr. National Expo - Write thank-you letters within a reasonable time period (suggest 30 days)
- Board Meeting
- Finalize PRIDE plans: committee work, confirm speakers and contest judges, correspond with national director candidates, complete sponsorships - Calendar project - Determine lots to sell in National Western fundraiser auction (semen, artwork, flushes)
- Complete small ad sales by August 1 (25 small ads each)
- Have articles for fall newsletter completed and in the office by August 15
September
- Confirm donation of National Western fundraiser auction lots
October
- Board Meeting
- New board member orientation - Set goals for the year - Make assignments for new directors
- American Royal
- Work junior heifer shows - AHA social
November/December
- Send out letters, make phone calls to potential fundraiser auction bidders
- Prepare flyer for Hereford World, advertising National Western auction
- Make travel arrangements for National Western
