National Junior Hereford Association Awards and Scholarships
Ed Bible Memorial Scholarship The Hereford Breed lost a great friend and colleague in 1998. All too often legends are not recognized in their own time. Ed Bible joined the APHA in 1973, and through the following 25 years he supported and encouraged the senior, junior and Poll-Ette associations. He left a positive imprint on the Hereford breed and industry. For this we honor him with this scholarship. The applicant must be a high school graduate (graduating the year of applying) or a college student who is a member of the National Junior Hereford Association, and one who has not previously received the Ed Bible Scholarship. The deadline for submitting application is May 1.
Junior Merit Award The National Junior Merit Award is designed to recognize outstanding college-age junior members and to provide them with further higher education opportunities. The award encourages individual and cooperative effort, enthusiasm, excellence, leadership and achievement and singles out those who are promising Hereford breeders and beef industry members. Applications must be submitted to AHA by May 1.
Walter and Joe Lewis Memorial Award The Walter and Joe Lewis Memorial Award is one of the most coveted awards a junior member can win at the Junior National. Three finalists are recognized for overall achievement in leadership, teamwork, skills and competition. Selection of the award winner relies on a point system for participation in junior programs and activities. To be considered for the award, juniors must complete the application and return it to the AHA Youth Department by June 1.
John Wayne Memorial Scholarship The American Hereford Youth Foundation and the American Hereford Women award two college scholarships to NJHA members who make outstanding contributions to agriculture and the Hereford industry. Applications must be submitted to AHA by May 1.

The National Organization of Poll-Ettes through the Hereford Youth Foundation of America presents the scholarship. Applications must be submitted to AHA by May 1.
Future Cattleman Scholarship The AHA and NJHA annually offer two college scholarships to worthy recipients having made outstanding contributions to the Hereford industry. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote increasing the overall knowledge and scope of a junior member into a self- motivated highly skilled member of society. Applications must be submitted to AHA by May 1.
Golden Bull Achievement Award Five "Golden Bull" junior achievement awards will be presented annually to deserving NJHA members. The award consists of a bronze Hereford bull model from the AHA and NJHA and a cash award from the Hereford Youth Foundation of America. Applications must be submitted to AHA by May 1.
B.C. Snidow Award The B.C. Snidow Award, sponsored by the American Hereford Women, is given annually to a deserving NJHA member who exemplifies the qualities most admired in Bud Snidow. Some of these qualities are: honesty, fairness, hard work, enthusiasm and dedication to the Hereford breed and its people. In an effort to properly select the most deserving junior member, advisors of each state junior association are asked to officially nominate one junior from their state for this award. Applications must be submitted to AHA by September 1.
